Saco
Saco is the metro's quieter southern bookend - the Saco River, the old mill blocks, and a Main Street that has been mid-renovation for what feels like a decade. It shares a downtown spine with Biddeford across the water, and the dating pool effectively spans both; pretending otherwise is a Saco affectation. You get tradespeople, remote workers priced out of Portland proper, and a summer surge from Old Orchard Beach that the locals tolerate rather than enjoy. First dates lean coffee-and-a-walk along the river. The tradeoff is honest: nightlife is thin on the Saco side, so the good bars are technically in Biddeford.
