Burgaw

The Pender County seat, half an hour inland from Wilmington and roughly a century behind it in tempo. Downtown is a courthouse square, a depot turned museum, and a blueberry festival that does most of the demographic work each June. Dating here means the same handful of restaurants on Fremont Street, church the next morning being noticed, and your truck recognized before you are. Wilmington pulls anyone serious about a wider field; locals who stay tend to pair off through work, family, or the long-running circuits at Holland's Shelter Creek and the VFW. Quiet by design, and mostly content with it.
