Leland is the answer when Wilmington proper prices someone out, which is increasingly everyone. Brunswick Forest and Magnolia Greens did the heavy lifting, pulling Northeast retirees and remote workers across the Cape Fear at a clip the county was not ready for. The dating scene is mostly the spillover: divorced fortysomethings rebuilding, young families who would have been Wilmington renters five years ago, the occasional ILM transplant who realized the commute is fifteen minutes. Restaurants are catching up faster than the road grid. Honest tradeoff: you gain square footage and lose walkability, and dates default to driving somewhere else.
