Boyle Heights
Boyle Heights is the Eastside's Latino heart, a working-class grid of bungalows, panaderias, and mariachi corners stitched together by the LA River and a half-dozen freeways slicing through it. Mariachi Plaza still books gigs the old way, Self Help Graphics still prints the Day of the Dead canon, and Un Solo Sol still serves the neighborhood that fought three Metro stations into existence. Gentrification pressure is real and openly contested here, with gallery boycotts and rent strikes part of the public record. Come for the birria and the murals, but read the room: this is somebody's home before it is your discovery.
