Sullivans Island
Sullivans Island is a barrier island of pastel cottages, Civil War batteries, and a beach that locals still pretend is a secret. Connected to Mount Pleasant by the Ben Sawyer bridge, it has resisted the high-rise fate of Folly or the Isle of Palms next door. Population hovers around two thousand, restaurants cluster on Middle Street, and parking on summer weekends is its own contact sport. For a dater, the appeal is daylight: walks at Station 16, sunset at Poe's Tavern, then the drive back across the marsh. Not a place to live on a normal salary. A place to be taken.
