Edisto Beach
Edisto Beach is the anti-Folly. Forty-five miles south of Charleston down a two-lane road that ends at the Atlantic, it has no high-rises, no chain restaurants worth naming, and a state park that does more nightlife than the town does. The dating math is brutal: a permanent population under seven hundred, skewed retired, and a summer surge of family renters rather than singles. The upside is the kind of beach that still has loggerhead nests and a sky dark enough to see Jupiter. Bring a partner or bring a book; courtship is not the local industry.
