Pelham
Pelham is Shelby County's practical answer to Hoover's polish. I-65 runs straight through it, Oak Mountain State Park looms on the east side with trails, a lake, and the amphitheater that books the summer's louder tours, and the housing stock skews newer and friendlier to first-time buyers than the over-the-mountain set. Schools are solid, the commute downtown is real but manageable, and the dating scene is mostly couples-with-strollers. Singles drift north to Homewood for the bars. Pelham trades scene for square footage, and most residents took that deal gladly.
