West Asheville is what people mean when they say Asheville got too cool for its own good. Haywood Road is the spine - coffee, vintage, taco spots, the Mothlight - and the side streets are bungalows that have changed hands at increasingly absurd numbers since roughly 2015. It is genuinely walkable in patches, genuinely not in others, and the bus connection to downtown is fine without being a selling point. The honest tradeoff: you get more yard and more neighborhood character than downtown, but you're paying a premium for the gentrification cycle that hit Portland and Austin a decade earlier.
