The River Arts District, or RAD if you want to sound local, is the converted-warehouse stretch along the French Broad where roughly 200 working artists keep open studios. Second Saturdays are the move: gallery hops, kiln demos, a glassblower who will absolutely flirt back. Wedge Brewing anchors the drinking, 12 Bones handles the ribs, and the greenway lets you walk it all off pretending you're virtuous. The honest tradeoffs: Helene flooding in 2024 gutted parts of the district, rebuilds are uneven, and the train still cuts through. Charming, scrappy, and visibly mid-comeback. Date here if you like patina over polish.
