South Anchorage is where the city goes to act like a suburb. Newer subdivisions sprawl out toward the Old Seward Highway, the lots get bigger, the cul-de-sacs multiply, and the Costco parking lot functions as something close to a town square. The schools test well, the commute to downtown is tolerable outside of rush hour, and the trail access to Chugach State Park is genuinely excellent. The tradeoff is that the dating pool skews married-with-kids and the bar scene effectively ends at Dimond Boulevard. Good for settling, less good for meeting. Bring your own demographic.
