The middle third of Topsail Island, straddling Pender and Onslow, with a swing bridge replaced and a personality that did not. Surf City reads as families, Marines down from Lejeune, and retirees who cashed out somewhere colder. The dating pool is seasonal and lopsided: summer rentals churn through twentysomethings the week the locals are working doubles, then November empties the place to its roughly 4,000 year-rounders. Expect pier bars, the Riptide and Daddy Mac's, and a long drive to Wilmington for anything resembling a scene. Sunrises do a lot of heavy lifting here, and they mostly earn it.
