Cicero is what happens when Syracuse runs out of room and Route 31 keeps building anyway. The fastest-growing town in Onondaga County, by most counts, with the subdivisions and chain-restaurant clusters to prove it. Oneida Lake gives the north end a summer pulse; the rest of the year, it is commuter country, with I-81 and I-481 doing the heavy lifting. Schools are the draw, traffic on Route 11 is the tax. You will not find a downtown so much as a series of plazas, but the lots are bigger, the taxes lower than the city, and the lake is genuinely close.
