Old Town
The mythic birthplace of California, repackaged as a margarita corridor. Old Town is where San Diego's Spanish colonial story technically began and where, on most evenings, that story is drowned out by mariachi and frozen tequila machines. As a dating venue it is unapologetically touristy. Take a first date here if you want low-stakes spectacle, mole, and the safety net of strolling crowds. Avoid it if you want a serious conversation, because the volume and the bachelorette parties will not cooperate. The honest pitch: a fun second date, a weak third. Locals use it sparingly. Out-of-towners overuse it and pay the markup.
