Carlsbad
Carlsbad is what San Diego built when it wanted a beach town that could also handle a minivan. LEGOLAND anchors the family side, the Flower Fields anchor the Instagram side, and the Village does the heavy lifting for anyone trying to get a date past the second drink. The honest tradeoff: it is genuinely pretty, genuinely walkable in pockets, and genuinely 35 miles from anything resembling a downtown nightlife scene. You will eat well, you will see a sunset, and you will be home by ten. Carlsbad does not apologize for that, and at this point neither should you.
