Midtown
Midtown is the grid, and the grid is where Sacramento actually shows up after dark. Numbered streets, lettered streets, a cocktail bar or a gallery on roughly every corner from 16th to 28th. Second Saturday turns the sidewalks into a slow shuffle past Verge and Axis; the rest of the month, the work happens at Hook and Ladder, Shady Lady, Red Rabbit, Mulvaney's B&L if someone is paying. The tradeoff: rents have caught up to the reputation, parking is a contact sport, and Friday nights skew younger and louder than the brunch crowd wants to admit. Still the densest first-date map in the capital.
