Freeport

Freeport is the date that is technically in Maine. L.L. Bean is open twenty-four hours, which sounds romantic until you realize the only people browsing flannel at 2 a.m. are you, your date, and a bus tour from Quebec. The outlets give you a built-in walking loop and a built-in excuse to leave when the conversation thins. Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster handles the food half honestly. The tradeoff: everyone you pass is a tourist, which is great for anonymity and bad for atmosphere. Best as a daytime detour, not a destination. Park once, wander Main Street, leave before the parking lot empties.
