The East Valley's largest city, and the one most often mistaken for a suburb of itself. Downtown Mesa is in the middle of a slow, earnest revitalization: a light rail extension, a few worthwhile restaurants on Main Street, the ASU outpost pulling in a younger crowd that did not exist a decade ago. The honest tradeoff is scale. Mesa sprawls hard, which means dates often involve a fifteen-minute drive between the cocktail bar and the dessert spot. Bring a designated driver or accept the Lyft math. The upside: rent is gentler than Tempe, and the dating pool skews slightly older and more settled.
