Auburn
Auburn is the version of Manchester that owns a kayak. Massabesic Lake takes up most of the town's identity, and the rail trail loop around it is the most reliable first-date move in the eastern suburbs: forty-five minutes, ambient ducks, an obvious bail point if conversation dies. Beyond the lake there is not much of a downtown to speak of, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on the company. Plan to drive back into Manchester proper for dinner, or commit to the bucolic angle with a Saturday morning at Sully's Superette. Honest about what it is: a quiet town that borrowed a nice lake.
