Maurice

South of Lafayette on Highway 167, Maurice is the kind of Vermilion Parish town you would miss if Hebert's Specialty Meats were not parked along the road like a roadside cathedral to turducken. That is, in fact, where the turducken was popularized, which is more cultural weight than most towns its size carry. Otherwise: rice fields, a couple of churches, a post office, and the polite Cajun French that still surfaces at the gas station counter. Close enough to commute to Lafayette, far enough that nobody pretends it is a suburb. Quiet on purpose.
