Brookside is what Kansas City tells visiting parents to look at. The 1920s shopping village around 63rd and Brookside Boulevard still does the J.C. Nichols thing convincingly: brick storefronts, the Dime Store, Avenues Bistro, a hardware store that knows your name by the third visit. Date logistics are easy because everything is two blocks, walkable to the Trolley Track Trail, and quiet by 10. The tradeoffs are the obvious ones: the price of admission is real, the demographic skews married-with-labrador, and the energy ceiling is lower than Westport. Charming, not surprising. That is the whole pitch.
