CD stands for cross-dresser, a dating-profile term for someone who wears clothing typically associated with another gender.
On dating platforms, CD functions as a self-identifying label or a preference filter, most visibly in Craigslist-style personals, Grindr, and other classifieds-format dating and hookup listings. A profile reading "CD seeking..." identifies the poster as a cross-dresser; "CD friendly" signals openness to matching with one. The term covers a range of motivations: some cross-dressers describe it as gender expression or personal exploration unrelated to gender identity, while others treat it as a sexual interest or fetish practiced situationally. Identifying as CD does not by itself indicate a transgender identity, gender dysphoria, or intent to transition. Cross-dressers commonly remain comfortable with their assigned gender outside the specific context of dressing, which distinguishes CD from related but separate labels seen in the same profile spaces: TG (transgender) and TS (transsexual) refer to gender identity rather than clothing practice, while the older term TV (transvestite) is largely synonymous with CD but has fallen out of common use, carrying clinical or, in some contexts, pejorative connotations. CD appears across sexual orientations, used by heterosexual, bisexual, and gay individuals alike; it shows up both in general classifieds-format personals and on apps oriented toward gay and bisexual men, as well as in dating communities built specifically around cross-dresser and transgender/transsexual identities.
