Veneta is the kind of place Eugene singles drive through on the way to somewhere else, then quietly note for the Oregon Country Fair weekend in July. The other fifty-one weeks, it is a wooded bedroom community of about 5,000, which is to say the dating pool is functionally your neighbor, your neighbor's cousin, or whoever is nursing a pint at the Hop Valley taproom in Eugene proper. The Fair brings genuine eccentrics through every summer, but they leave. Veneta's appeal is the inverse: if you have already met someone here, the woods, the trails, and the short drive to wine country do uncomplicated work.
