Lower Valley
Lower Valley is the oldest El Paso that is not downtown. The mission trail threads Ysleta, Socorro, and San Elizario, three of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the United States, and the neighborhood still wears that fact lightly. Heavily Mexican-American, multigenerational, the kind of place where the menudo spot has a name nobody bothers writing down. Honest tradeoff: lower rents and deeper roots come with older housing stock, longer drives to the Westside, and a social scene that runs on family ties rather than apps. Dating here works if you already know somebody who knows somebody. Otherwise, it is a long acquaintance.
