Lockwood is the unincorporated stretch just east of the Yellowstone, the side of Billings most Billings residents drive through rather than to. Roughly 7,000 people, no incorporated downtown, a school district that locals defend hard, and lots that go further than anything inside city limits. The honest pitch: cheaper land, faster access to I-90 east, and a quick hop to the Heights or downtown for actual nightlife. The honest tradeoff: no walkable core, limited third places, and any dating life is functionally Billings dating life with a longer drive home. Workable if you already have someone; punishing as a cold start.
