Laurel
Laurel sits about seventeen miles west of Billings, a refinery town of roughly 7,000 anchored by the CHS plant on the south edge. The honest pitch: cheaper rent than the city, an actual downtown along Main Street, and the Yellowstone close enough for evening walks. The honest tradeoff: the refinery is right there, the dating pool is thin, and a date that does not end at Mick's or the Owl Lounge probably ends in Billings anyway. Best as a base if you work west, commute cheap, and treat Billings as your weekend social grid rather than your daily one.
